I feel it is necessary to write a foreword to this book titled Why has Woman become a Slave?' to fulfil the wish of the publisher.

The ideas found in this book would seem controversial and revolutionary to the common people, whose sentiments and perceptions are different and whose views about social organizations, morality, customs, religion, and religious traditions and the tenets of the sastras are altogether different from rational thinking. We shouldn't assume that we can make them understand easily what is right and true, through the firm conviction of just and rational approach easily.

Any right and justifiable stand, which conforms to rational thinking, will not be easily accepted by people, who have immense faith in religions and sastras.

The minds of common people, steeped in irrational and ignorant traditions can be made to accept that which is against rational thinking, by indoctrinating them with age old and obsolete customs and the sastras that support them. Such people will abhor any rational ideas. Everything should be proved convincingly, and for the sake of it, I have written a few lines as foreword.

The first chapter of this book insists on uniform justice for both man and woman regarding the precept of CHASTITY..Now chastity is made a compulsory dictum only for woman and it is this extreme stipulation on woman that has paved the way for her abject enslavement.

The idea about 'chastity' should change so that both men and women are bound by it and can enjoy equal freedom. This idea is firmly emphasized in the first chapter.

The second chapter deals with Thiru Valluvar and Chastity. The aim of this chapter is to make one not to have blind faith in the psuedo-ethical scriptures written by vested interests since they have written them only to reflect the circumstances that prevailed in their times and the conditions of their country.
